Recent report confirms Chiefs HC Andy Reid isn't retiring anytime soon

In February, The Athletic's Nate Taylor reported Kansas City was interested in signing Reid and Veach to extensions. Taylor noted the duo's previous contracts ran through the 2025 season and potential extensions could extend through 2028.

NFL insider Tom Pelissero revealed the sides agreed on extensions through 2029. Reid's deal also makes him the league's highest-paid coach.

With a fresh contract in hand, rumors that Reid could consider retirement in the near future are squashed.

In the lead up to Kansas City's Super Bowl LVIII overtime win over the 49ers, there was speculation that Reid would retire following the game.

Per Deseret News, in January, ESPN's Adam Schefter even theorized about former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick taking his place in a game of a "what if?".

"If the Chiefs were to win the Super Bowl this year, could that, would that make [Reid] more likely to walk?" asked Schefter. "And if he did walk ... and Bill Belichick were still sitting out there, would that not be an interesting possibility?"

Around the same time, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio wrote "that the possibility of Reid retiring is on the Chiefs' radar screen. If you don't like it or don't want to believe it, that's your business."

Following his team's second consecutive Super Bowl win and third Lombardi Trophy in five seasons, Reid confirmed he hadn't "even thought about retirement ... I haven't really gone there."

With his much-deserved recent extension, he won't have to.
